at the library

1) a note i found in a book from who knows when 2) cool spine art 3) penguins! 4) a letter from napoleon to countess walewska from a collection of letters

i work at the library and there is something so mysterious about going through old books and finding hidden messages, or reading interesting titles. it always boggles my mind when i pick up a book and realize it hasn't been checked out since the early 1900's.

on a wednesday in a café

just wanna keep that autumn theme going here, it'll be the last i promise!

this playlist is perfect for that foggy day in fall when the weathers not too cold, you're drinking your hot tea or cider, reading a book in bed, or getting work done.

school motto

throughout life you are constantly being told no, or that was wrong, etc. i am constantly (especially right now) doubting myself and my abilities as a student. thoughts like: "i'm not good enough" or "why is he/she better then me?" are constantly in my head just brewing. & then i saw this:

source unknown!
& it just clicked in my head. maybe i can't get my account sheets to balance- yet, or i just cant seem to remember the chemical structure of an unsaturated fatty acid-yet. but i will.

the times are changing

via

can you feel the crispness in the morning air? do you see those leaves changing? or how 'bout the sun setting earlier? these are all signs of fall. as much as i enjoy all the bonuses of summer, my favorite season is fall (not just cause my birthday's in october). i love that warm drinks are an all day thing, i love getting into my bed on a cold night, sweaters, pumpkin pie/frapps/scones & boots, the list goes on & on. happy fall y'all!

the age of miracles

via
one thing i love just as much as eating & sleeping is reading. during winter or summer breaks you can usually find me with my head buried in a book, but come school time my head is usually buried under textbooks, which are way less fun. but this year i make sure to give myself at least 10 minutes of reading time right before i go to bed. it may take me twice as long to finish a book but its been really effective.
i've been reading the age of miracles by karen thompson walker for the past month & every night i have trouble putting the book down & going to bed. so last night as i was in bed reading i decided to finish it. it didn't matter that it was way past my recommended bed time, or that i was planning on waking up early and going to the gym. & i am so glad i did, the book was magic from beginning to end.
the book is about what would happen if the earth began to slow, so instead of 24 hour days you'd have 26, 48 hour days. it was beautifully written & it took me to place that was far enough away from our reality but close enough to make me cherish the little things like the smell of grass (you'll understand if you read the book)

quotes:

"But I guess it never is what you worry over that comes to pass in the end. The real catastrophes are always different—unimagined, unprepared for, unknown.”

“Some say that love is the sweetest feeling, the purest form of joy, but that isn't right. It's not love--it's relief.”

“I liked the idea, how the past could be preserved, fossilized, in the stars. I wanted to think that somewhere on the other end of time, a hundred light years from then, someone else, some distant future creature, might be looking back at a preserved image of me and my father at that very moment in my bedroom.”

fun fair

as you may or may not know i am from san francisco, i'm just your typical city gal. i thought i had been to a state fair but no i haven't. because they entail livestock, rodeos, & fried butter. all things that are practically illegal in san francisco. so i went to the puyallup fair last weekend ( i know it's thursday & i'm talking about last weekend),  & my mind was on overdrive on all the cool things i saw:
naked cats, cows, baby goats, fried whatever you want, so much western wear, bbqs, & a ton of rides.

yes that is a "naked cat"

passion pit

my roommate & i spent labor day in seattle at bumbershoot. it was such a fun (& exhausting) day! we saw best coast, m83 (crazy mosh pit!), the pains of being pure at heart, kina grannis, hey marseilles, & passion pit. after all the musical fun we walked over to dick's (a popular burger joint in seattle) for some cheeseburgers, fries, & shakes. it was my first bumbershoot experience but i can't wait for many more in the future.

weekend life

donuts on donuts

really cute crumpet shop

this weekend was a blast! it started out on saturday when some friends & i headed north to seattle for the day. we ate some donuts (maple, bacon & peach), tried some piroshkis (rhubarb, beef & cheese, & salmon), bought flowers, & took in the sights of seattle. i hardly go up to seattle but when i do i'm always convinced that i'm eventually going to live there. that night we participated in a scavenger hunt that had my friends & i running all around the school. although we didn't win we had a great time & even got to pose with the trophy! on monday i went to bumbershoot- a super fun musical festival held in seattle- but more on that later.
